Insurance Glossary
Term Definition
Accidental Damage Damage caused by violent and external means including flood, hurricane and earthquakes.
Breakdown
Damages resulting from electrical or mechanical defect causing a sudden and unforeseen stoppage to any equipment.
Buildings
The buildings of the private dwelling house or private flat situated as herein described and of all domestic offices, stables, garages and outbuildings used solely in connection therewith and on the same premises and shall include landlord’s fixtures therein and the walls, gates and fences around any pertaining thereto.
Contents
Furniture household goods and personal effects (except any specifically insured hereunder as separate items) the property of the insured or for which he is legally responsible contained in the dwelling house.

Electronic Equipment

 

Musical Instruments, radios, televisions, other radio or video equipment and personal computers.

Excess The first part of a claim which the Policy Holder must pay. If claims are made under two or more sections of the policy for loss or damage caused by the same insured event, only one Excess will be deducted from the total amount of the agreed claim.
Fees Architects’, surveyors’, consulting engineers’ and other professional fees which you have to pay in connection with repairing or reinstalling the Buildings.

Freezer
Any deep freezer and/or the deep freezer compartment of your refrigerator.
Home Building and contents used for domestic purposes ONLY, at the address shown in the schedule.
Household/Insured Person
You, members of your family habitually living with you and your domestic staff.
Injury Bodily Injury (excluding death) caused solely by an accident and not by sickness, disease or gradual deterioration.
Loss of Limbs/Eyes Total loss by physical separation or total loss of use of a limb at or above the wrist or ankle, or total and irrecoverable loss of sight in one or both eyes.

Money
“Money” shall mean Cash, Bank and Currency Notes, Postal Orders, Money Orders, Cheques, unused National Insurance Stamps, Postage Stamps, Revenue Stamps, all pertaining to the Business and belonging to the Insured or for which he is responsible.

Personal Computer

A microcomputer intended to be used by one person at a time, and suitable for general purpose tasks such as word processing, programming, or game play, usually used to run purchased or other software not written by the user in your household.
Personal Effects
Articles normally worn, used or carried about the person in everyday life.

Removal of debris

Any amount which we agree to pay for removing debris, for demolishing, propping or shoring up parts of the building which has not been damage.

Travelling
The act of going from one place to another.
Unfurnished Premises Not fitted up with all necessary and usual appliances (including but not limited to moveable furniture) for daily living.

Unoccupied Premises

If the building insured or containing insured property is not lived in by any member of your house hold or by any other person with your permission and remains unoccupied for a period exceeding thirty (30) days.

Valuable and Portable Possessions
Jewellery, items of gold, silver or other precious metals, watches, photographic equipment, binoculars, works of art, curios, furs, firearms, stamp, coin and medal collections
